Start a Business
How to Start a Business
Do you want to learn how to start a business? With hard work, commitment and support from Momentum you can turn your business idea into reality.
Momentum’s building is closed to the public, but registration is open for our programs that are going online!
This program can help you determine if your idea can be turned into a successful business through the completion of a feasibility study. If you’re not sure about your business idea, the Business Feasibility Study is a good place to start before committing to one of our longer self employment programs.
This is a daytime online program that lasts 6 months. You will receive in-class training on basic business operations and how to create an effective business plan. You will also have access to business coaching throughout the course to help your new business become operational quickly. If accepted, you may be supported by an active EI claim or Learner Income Support, depending on household circumstances.
In this evening program you will learn how to start your business, write a comprehensive business plan, and launch your business. Online classes take place two evenings a week for three months, with one hour of business coaching per week. You will also have access to three months of post-program coaching to support the implementation of your business plan. This program is ideal for people who are working in the day, need evening childcare, or would be best supported in an evening program.
This is the program for you if you are in the start-up phase of your business. You've made some sales, you’re clear on who your target market is, you have some form of online presence established - but you just need a little more help and accountability. Get in touch with us to find out more about this "choose your own adventure" program.
Sometimes you need a little extra financial support to start or expand your business. If you have completed one of Momentum’s business programs and have faced difficulty in getting a loan from a bank or credit union, you can apply for a character-based Micro Business Loan.
You can apply for up to $10,000 if you have a completed a Business Development program at Momentum, have a business plan, and acceptable credit history.
