Accessibility and Belonging Whoever you are, there's a place for you here.

What Guides Us

At Momentum, we value and celebrate the diversity of our community by acknowledging that each of us has a role to play in creating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging. Read our full DEI Policy.

We named Equity & Reconciliation as a primary lever-of-change in our organizational strategy, and through our Indigenous Engagement Working Group we forward the evolution of our Indigenous Engagement Strategy.

We have a DEBI (Diversity, Equity, Belonging and Inclusion) Committee that hosts opportunities for staff to voice their concerns, learn inclusion awareness, and contribute to Momentum’s culture of belonging. This committee hosts regular sharing circles, learning events, crafting sessions, and coordinates staff to participate in events such as Pride.

Our Building

The Momentum building is a five-minute walk from the Franklin LRT station. Visitors who drive will find free parking in designated parking areas. There are accessible parking stalls just outside our entrance.

Our exterior windows and interior walls include symbols such as the Pride Flag and welcome messages in different languages, inviting underrepresented and marginalized groups into the space. As you walk in you will see a large mural by artist Keegan Starlight, providing a visual land acknowledgment and representing the nations of Treaty 7 and the Metis Nation of Alberta.

Our classrooms and offices are all on the main floor of our building. During open hours, main doors open automatically with a simple wave and our hallways and doorways are wheelchair accessible. We consulted an inclusion company when our building was designed, to ensure physical accessibility!

We have multiple unisex, single-room washrooms that include bidets and free menstrual products. We also have a Wellness room, providing staff and participants a quiet, private space to decompress.

See this interactive map for more information on our space.

Our Staff

Our DEBI Committee creates toolkits for program facilitators to support them in creating a strong sense of belonging in their classrooms.

Our Welcome Team and program facilitators are offered training in basic first-aid, de-escalation practices, and DEI awareness. Many have backgrounds in social work. Our hiring practices prioritize shared values, individual strengths, and equity.

Staff benefits include access to mental health and wellness supports. We offer comprehensive benefits to staff which include gender-affirming care, adoption expenses for people (and animals!), veterinary bills, and more. We offer generous parental leave, flex work schedules, work-from-home days, adjustable/standing desks, ergonomic chair options, and hybrid meetings with AI notetakers.

Our Programs

Many programs include hybrid delivery, and we are flexible in accommodating the needs of our registered participants. Most programs are low-or-no cost and designed for Calgarians facing financial barriers.

Our curricula are designed with plain language for new English speakers and high contrast for colour blindness.

We create inclusive marketing materials to encourage more women and 2SLBGBTQ+ folks into our pre-apprenticeship trades training programs, and we offer entry-level tech programming for women and those identifying as non-binary.

We are well-connected with social benefit agencies and nonprofit organizations throughout the city, and we are happy to refer resources whenever possible.

Our Website

Our website conforms to AA WCAG “strong accessibility” standards, with requirements including high colour contrast, text resizing, intuitive navigation, clear headings and labels, images with alt text, and high readability. Our website aligns with government website accessibility standards.
