Trades Training Pre-employment Welding

In this free pre-employment training program, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your skills, get access to real on-site experience, and receive hands-on training with our industry partners.

It can be hard to find a good job and start a career in the trades if you don’t have the training and skills you need. Our Trades Training programs have been helping Calgarians build new careers as apprentices and journeypersons in the trades for over 25 years.

In this free Pre-employment Training Program, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your skills, get access to real on-site experience, and receive hands-on training with our industry partners.

This 12-week (3-month) full-time program includes in-class learning with hands-on practice and on-the-job training.

*Additional financial support, based on financial need, may be available.

A welder's primary job is to fuse metal pieces together using heat and pressure, creating strong and durable bonds. They use various welding techniques, tools, and equipment to join or repair metal structures and components in diverse industries like construction, manufacturing and oil and gas. Starting in this trade, you may find work as a Skilled Labourer or Welder Helper.

Become certified in H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Confined Space

Receive technical training with our industry partners

Gain valuable on-the-job training with a work experience employer

Develop skills and attitudes to help you succeed in finding a good job and starting your career

Is this program right for you?

Do you qualify?

  • Are underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week) or unemployed

  • Are ready, willing and able to complete a full-time training program and start a career in the trades

  • You live in Calgary and area (or if you are Indigenous, Inuit or Metis living in surrounding Treaty 7 territory)

  • Are a permanent resident or a citizen of Canada

  • Have a Canadian Language Benchmark Level 5 or above

  • Applicants must provide a Canadian bank statement covering the past three months
