Trades Training Pre-apprenticeship Carpentry Program.

In our free pre-apprenticeship training programs, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your skills, get access to real on-site experience, and receive hands-on training from SAIT, Alberta’s leading trades college.

It can be hard to find a good job and start a career in the trades if you don’t have the training and skills you need. Our Trades Training programs have been helping Calgarians build new careers as apprentices and journeypersons in the trades for over 25 years.

In our free Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your skills, get access to real on-site experience, and receive hands-on training from SAIT, Alberta’s leading trades college.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, birthplaces and gender identities. Canadian citizens or permanent residents or refugees* may apply.


*A Protected person who is legally entitled to work and study in Canada. A protected person must provide documentation showing their protected person status is valid at the program's start, confirmation of a valid SIN, a Notice of Decision, and a valid study and work permit.

What you will learn

Become certified in First Aid, CPR, CSTS and WHMIS

Upgrade your English, math and science skills

Receive technical training from Alberta’s leading trades college SAIT

Gain valuable on-the-job training with a work experience employer

Develop skills and attitudes to help you succeed in finding a good job and building your career

Is this program right for you?

Do you qualify?

  • Are underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week) or unemployed

  • Have a Canadian Language Benchmark Level 4-5

  • Are ready, willing and able to complete our pre-Apprenticeship training to start a career in the trades

  • Have created a MyAlberta ID account - we can help you set yours up

  • You live in Calgary and area (or if you are Indigenous, Inuit or Metis living in surrounding Treaty 7 territory)
