Momentum is thrilled to announce a transformational gift that will significantly expand access to Momentum’s life-changing programs. This investment will open doors for more than 125,000 people in Calgary and across the Treaty 7 region to build sustainable livelihoods through employment training, entrepreneurship, and financial empowerment programs.
Demand for Momentum’s programs continues to rise as more people seek support to increase their incomes and build stability. Over the next five years, the gift from the Weston family will allow Momentum to scale its proven income-building programs, ensuring thousands more people can gain the skills, confidence, and support they need to move out of poverty and thrive.
“At Momentum, we see the lives of program participants change every day through the power of learning, connection, and community. This generous contribution from the Weston family means more people will have the same opportunity to move from surviving to thriving.”
— Jeff Loomis, Executive Director, Momentum
Momentum’s programs are designed primarily for people living on lower incomes and have a strong track record of impact. Through core programming, 70% of participants increased their incomes by an average of $27,000—effectively doubling their take-home pay. These outcomes show what is possible when people are equipped with the right tools, training, and support systems.
“My experience with Momentum’s Self-Employment program was incredibly valuable. The program provided me with the practical tools I needed to turn my passion into a structured business plan. Now, I have successfully launched my business.”
— Kelly, Momentum Self-Employment graduate and owner of T.SAND Tea and Sand Art Studio
With this investment, Momentum plans to increase program capacity by 60% over the next five years. This growth will widen the path to economic security for people living on lower incomes and create new opportunities for participants to build sustainable futures. The funding will also enable Momentum to test innovative approaches to strengthen people’s financial resiliency and deepen impact through expanded partnerships with local employers and community organizations.
Ultimately, this gift will help thousands more Calgarians gain access to meaningful employment, entrepreneurial opportunities, and essential financial tools – strengthening their long-term stability and contributing to a more inclusive, resilient local economy.
