Creating wearable joy

Karyn Williams is the owner of JoyDream Jewelry and has been an artist and designer for over 20 years. She started as a kid, working with the materials she had access to, like paper and clay “It has always been my dream to be a designer,” Williams says.

Originally from Fort St. John, BC, Williams moved to Calgary because she wanted to learn about art. When she got into the city, she signed up for a glass making class. She fell in love with the medium and was driven to learn as much about the art of glass beading as possible.

“I’ve always been an artist, I knew how to make my craft, but I didn’t know what I needed to run my business,” Williams says, who knew she found her calling and enrolled in Momentum’s Self Employment Program in 2019. “There are two sides to a business using an artistic product, there is the art side and the business side and Momentum helped me bring those two things together.”

“It’s more than just jewelry, I create wearable joy.”

Watch Williams on CTV Morning Live talking about her handcrafted jewelry and her journey to be an entrepreneur.
