Momentum offers small business start-up programs for people with a serious intent to start a business. You bring the passion and expertise, and Momentum will teach you how to write and implement a business plan so that you can be successfully self-employed.

Exploring Entrepreneurship – Information Session

Have you ever wondered about self-employment? Do you have a business idea but need help to determine which program is right for you? Our 2 hour information session will provide you with more details about Momentum’s business programs, as well as valuable information about being self-employed. These sessions take place regularly throughout the year. To register, please call the Business Development Assistant at 403-204-2675.

Self Employment Program

This is a day time program that lasts 6 months. You will receive in-class training to teach you how to operate your business and to help you write a business plan. You will also receive business coaching to help you get your business operating. If accepted, you may be supported by an active EI claim or Learner Income Support, depending on household circumstances.

Venture Program

In this evening program you will learn how to start your business, write a comprehensive business plan, and launch your business. Classes take place two evenings a week for three months, with one hour of business coaching per week. You will also have access to three months of post-program coaching to support the implementation of your business plan. This program is ideal for people who are working in the day, need evening childcare, or would be best supported in an evening program.

Program runs: October 2 – December 20, 2018 (Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00pm - 8:30pm)

Business Basics 15

Do you have an idea for a small business but you’re not sure if you should start it? This 15-hour afternoon program will help you develop a feasibility study. A feasibility study can help you decide if your idea can be turned into a successful business. If you’re not sure about your business idea, this program is a good place to start before committing to one of our longer programs.

Program runs: November 20-29, 2018 (Tuesday - Thursday from 1:00pm - 3:30pm)

Business Basics 30

Do you live on a low or fixed income and have an idea for a small, home-based business to supplement your income? Through this 30-hour program you will build essential skills to develop your business idea. Over six weeks, you will discuss business plan topics in a group setting, develop your own business plan to help you get your business started.

Micro Business Loans

Sometimes you need a little extra financial support to start or expand your business. If you have completed one of Momentum’s business programs and have faced difficulty in getting a loan from a bank or credit union, you can apply for a character-based micro loan.

You can apply for up to $10,000 if you have a completed any Business Development program at Momentum, have a business plan and acceptable credit history.

Entrepreneurs with Disabilities

You might have a disability that makes it difficult to work a regular job, but would like to start a business. All of Momentum’s business programs are suitable for people with a disability. This might include a physical disability, a mental disability, or a learning disability. We are fully accessible for wheel chairs or other mobility devices. We also offer support for those with a variety of mental disabilities through peer support coaching. We can also adapt to your learning style to make owning a business a dream come true. Momentum is an inclusive organization that can help you get your business started.
